DAY 7 – MEET WILSON: A YOUNG CHANGEMAKER IN PROJECT EMPOWERMENT
At Stand Out Socks, we are making noise every single day in the lead-up to World Down Syndrome Day (21st March)! Through Project Empowerment, we’re sharing the incredible stories of people who are breaking barriers, changing perceptions, and proving that opportunity should be open to everyone.
Today, we’re thrilled to introduce Wilson, an 8-year-old powerhouse from Wales who is bringing his unstoppable energy to Project Empowerment.
Wilson’s Story: More Than a Diagnosis
Wilson is a footballer, skater, surfer-in-training, and a signed model with Zebedee. He’s using his growing social media presence not only to raise awareness for Down syndrome but also to make an impact through selling Stand Out Socks. Wilson is showing the world that Down syndrome doesn’t define him—it’s just one part of his amazing journey.
Raising Funds & Making a Difference
With the support of his brothers, Wilson is on a mission. Through Project Empowerment, he’s selling Stand Out Socks to fundraise for The Pembrokeshire Sibling Group, a charity close to his heart. This organization has been supporting siblings of disabled or seriously ill children since 1996, providing them with much-needed respite, days out, and residential breaks. It’s a way for young carers to still enjoy childhood, connect with peers, and have something to look forward to.
But that’s not all—Wilson has a personal goal too! He’s working towards getting a tricycle so he can enjoy family bike rides, making sure he doesn’t miss out on life’s simple joys.
What is Project Empowerment?
Project Empowerment is an initiative that gives individuals the chance to kick-start their entrepreneurial journey, gain valuable skills, and boost their prospects, all while raising awareness for World Down Syndrome Day. It’s all about empowerment, growth, and making a real difference in how the world sees people with Down syndrome. Wilson embodies everything this movement stands for.
Join the Movement – Wear Your Socks on 21st March!
Every year, on World Down Syndrome Day, millions of people across the globe wear brightly coloured, often mismatched socks to start conversations and celebrate inclusion. This tradition exists because chromosomes are shaped like socks—and individuals with Down syndrome have an extra copy of chromosome 21.
It’s a fun, simple, and powerful way to show support, raise awareness, and stand for a world where everyone has the chance to shine.
