STAND OUT SOCKS x PROJECT EMPOWERMENT – MAKING NOISE EVERY DAY FOR THE LEAD UP TO WORLD DOWN SYNDROME DAY!
At Stand Out Socks, we are beyond excited for Project Empowerment! In the lead-up to World Down Syndrome Day, we’ll be sharing incredible stories every single day from the amazing individuals involved in this inspiring initiative.
💙💛 Project Empowerment gives individuals the chance to kick-start their entrepreneurial journey, gain valuable skills, and boost their prospects—all while raising awareness for World Down Syndrome Day on March 21st. This initiative is all about empowerment, growth, and making a real difference!
DAY 12 - Victoria & the Gang at MacIntyre
Today, we’re thrilled to introduce Victoria and her friends from MacIntyre Charity!
Victoria is 38 years old, and at just 2-3 days old, she contracted bacterial meningitis and septicaemia, leading to her lifelong disability, cerebral palsy. But that hasn’t stopped her from living independently and enjoying life to the fullest!
Through attending MacIntyre Charity's L.L.L. day centre on Fridays, Victoria discovered the Project Empowerment opportunity. We were absolutely thrilled when we informed her that she had been successful in securing her place!
Victoria is passionate about shopping, reading, and watching movies—she’s a total movie buff! She’s also a huge Harry Potter fan, with a growing collection of memorabilia. But most importantly, Victoria LOVES socks—especially the more colourful, the better!
For her Project Empowerment venture, Victoria had a brilliant idea: to display socks like cupcakes. Fun, eye-catching, and sure to grab attention at local community events, Victoria plans to set up a stall to raise money and awareness for charities supporting adults with disabilities.
She’s also hoping to reinvest the money she makes with her friends at MacIntyre Charity to create tie-dye t-shirts and baby grows. We think this is a WAND-erful opportunity, don’t you? ✨🕺💛
Why World Down Syndrome Day Matters
On March 21st, millions of people across the globe come together to celebrate World Down Syndrome Day. To show support, people wear brightly coloured, often mismatched socks—because chromosomes are shaped like socks, and people with Down syndrome have an extra copy of chromosome 21.
It’s a fun and meaningful way to start conversations, celebrate individuality, and show support for inclusion. Every pair of socks worn is a symbol of empowerment, and every conversation sparked helps to raise awareness about Down syndrome.
