Stand Out Socks x Project Empowerment – Making Noise for World Down Syndrome Day!
At Stand Out Socks ✌️🧡🧦, inclusion is at the heart of everything we do. That’s why we’re thrilled to launch Project Empowerment—a campaign dedicated to showcasing incredible individuals who are breaking barriers and making a difference. In the lead-up to World Down Syndrome Day (March 21st), we’re sharing inspiring stories every single day!
What is Project Empowerment?
💙💛 Project Empowerment is an initiative that gives individuals the opportunity to kick-start their entrepreneurial journey, gain valuable skills, and raise awareness for World Down Syndrome Day. It’s about empowerment, growth, and creating lasting impact.
DAY 6 – Duncan and the Berkshire Brigands Mixed Ability Rugby Team
Today, we’re spotlighting Duncan and the Berkshire Brigands Mixed Ability Rugby Team—a team where players with and without learning disabilities play side by side.
Duncan founded the team to prove that rugby isn’t just a sport; it’s about friendships, fitness, and a true sense of belonging. They train hard at Reading Rugby Club, and after every session, they gather at their clubhouse to celebrate with drinks and hotdogs. Simple, but special.
A Clubhouse in Crisis
Unfortunately, their beloved clubhouse is falling apart—leaking roofs, a crumbling kitchen, and a hefty £185,000 repair bill. Without it, they risk losing their space, their traditions, and the inclusive community they’ve built.
How We’re Helping
To support Duncan and his team, we’ve donated 100 pairs of Stand Out Socks for them to sell and raise funds! 🧦
Every pair sold helps: ✅ Raise money for clubhouse repairs ✅ Spread awareness about mixed ability sports ✅ Support inclusion and celebrate differences
Rugby for all must stay alive, and we’re proud to play a small part in making that happen.
Why Socks on March 21st?
On World Down Syndrome Day, people across the world wear bright, often mismatched socks to spark conversations about inclusion.
Why socks? Because chromosomes are shaped like socks—and people with Down syndrome have an extra copy of chromosome 21. It’s a fun and meaningful way to celebrate uniqueness, individuality, and the power of inclusion.
Get Involved!
Want to support? Wear your mismatched socks on March 21st and help spread the message of inclusion!
