🎉 STAND OUT SOCKS x PROJECT EMPOWERMENT – MAKING NOISE EVERY DAY IN THE LEAD-UP TO WORLD DOWN SYNDROME DAY!
At Stand Out Socks ✌️🧡🧦, we’re thrilled to be part of Project Empowerment in the lead-up to World Down Syndrome Day! Every day, we’ll be sharing inspiring stories from incredible people who are making a difference, and we’re so excited to be part of their journeys!
💙💛 Project Empowerment is all about giving individuals the opportunity to kick-start their entrepreneurial journey, gain valuable skills, and enhance their prospects, all while raising awareness for World Down Syndrome Day on March 21st. This initiative is about empowerment, growth, and truly making an impact!
DAY 10 – Meet Tino
Today, we’re excited to introduce Tino, a 15-year-old with Down syndrome who is full of energy, determination, and enthusiasm as he embarks on his sock project with the support of his mum. For Tino, this opportunity is a big deal, and he can’t wait to dive in!
For every pair of socks that Tino sells, £1.00 will be donated to Downright Special, a local Down syndrome charity that has supported Tino since he was just three months old. The remaining funds will help Tino build his very own mini business—a step towards his future independence. And, of course, a little treat to reward his hard work along the way!
We are beyond proud to support Tino on this exciting journey, and we can’t wait to see everything he accomplishes!
Why We Wear Bright Socks on World Down Syndrome Day
On March 21st, millions of people across the globe come together to celebrate World Down Syndrome Day. One of the fun and meaningful ways to show support is by wearing brightly coloured, often mismatched socks. This is a symbolic nod to chromosomes, which look like little socks under a microscope—and people with Down syndrome have an extra copy of chromosome 21.
This tradition is a great conversation starter, an opportunity to celebrate individuality, and a way to show support for inclusion and diversity.
