At Stand Out Socks ✌️🧡🧦, we’re beyond excited for Project Empowerment! As we countdown to World Down Syndrome Day, we’ll be sharing incredible stories from the amazing people involved every single day.
💙💛 Project Empowerment is about giving individuals the opportunity to kick-start their entrepreneurial journey, develop new skills, and boost their future prospects—all while raising awareness for World Down Syndrome Day on March 21st. It’s a movement of empowerment, growth, and real-world impact!
DAY 4 - Agent J - Joshua Hoskins
Today, we’re proud to share the inspiring story of Josh Hoskins, a true trailblazer and advocate for inclusion in the workplace.
Josh, a 26-year-old from Tamworth with Down’s Syndrome, has two jobs that he loves and excels at. He’s passionate about showing the world that people like him can make a real difference in the workplace. Josh is not only a superstar on LinkedIn, spreading positivity and showing what’s possible, but he’s also on a mission to prove that anything is achievable, no matter the challenges.
Through Project Empowerment, Josh has set goals to:
- Spread the message of inclusion in the workplace
- Do something different and learn new skills
- Have fun along the way
- Prove what he can do and inspire others
In support of Josh’s mission, we’ve given him 100 pairs of Stand Out Socks to sell. This is an exciting opportunity for Josh to raise funds for two charities close to his heart and showcase his skills. After careful consideration, Josh has chosen to split the proceeds between:
- British Disabled Angling Association (who support his passion for fly fishing)
- Parklands Riding for the Disabled Association (where he enjoys horse riding)
Josh wants the funds to go toward something specific, further demonstrating what someone with Down Syndrome can achieve.
Josh’s journey is a shining example of the power of inclusion. Last year, he was a finalist at The National Diversity Awards and won the Unsung Community Hero Award in Tamworth. He also donates a portion of his salary every month to his local food bank and fundraises for three different charities.
We are so proud to call Joshua and his family our friends and to support their incredible work in the community. It’s an honour to have them as part of Project Empowerment.
Celebrate World Down Syndrome Day
On March 21st, millions around the world will come together to celebrate World Down Syndrome Day. A powerful way to raise awareness is by wearing brightly coloured, often mismatched socks—symbolizing chromosomes, shaped like socks. People with Down syndrome have an extra copy of chromosome 21, and this fun and meaningful tradition sparks conversations, celebrates individuality, and promotes inclusion. 💙💛
